I recently had my second child and as I reflect on the experience, I wanted to share some of my knowledge and tips with moms-to-be. After all, planning for a pregnancy is a very exciting time but it can be overwhelming too. It is the start of a new phase of life—parenthood. As the mother of two young boys, I am in the middle of this exciting phase too. My second son was born in December of 2011 at Maple Grove Hospital and now I have experienced the joys of being both a physician and a patient there.

Many of my patients want to talk about the dos and don’ts of exercise when they are pregnant. Over the years there have been differing opinions about exercise during pregnancy and admittedly, it’s been confusing. That said, the evidence is clear that exercise during a normal pregnancy is safe.
