A Life Line for Surviving Domestic Abuse
SafeJourney is a hospital-based domestic abuse advocacy program that provides a compassionate and informed response team of both trained medical personnel and volunteer advocates. Together, they address the medical, safety, emotional, and economic needs of those whose lives are shaken by intimate partner violence.
SafeJourney services are free and confidential, and are available to community members as well as for patients of Maple Grove Hospital
SafeJourney ensures that victims have access to more than treatment for their medical injuries and a telephone referral for further services. Medical staff screen patients for violence issues and document any injuries resulting from domestic violence. Volunteer advocates provide a lifeline for victims and their families in need of safe housing, orders for protection, financial assistance, documentation of injuries, and individual safety planning.
The mission of SafeJourney is to provide the support, information and advocacy to individuals and families who do not feel safe in a relationship and empower them to implement a safety plan.
SafeJourney treats individuals with dignity and respect and provides them with the support and advocacy they desire to achieve their goals. Our ability to comprehensively and effectively respond to domestic violence is dependent upon a collaborative relationship with community services and informed, educated, responsive health care professionals. Collaboration occurs through networking, educational offerings, outreach programming and implementation of a consistent method to proactively identify and treat victims of domestic violence. We believe to make informed decisions, individuals need access to information to know their options and available resources.
SafeJourney is an innovative, volunteer-driven program that provides victims of intimate partner violence and their children – emotional support, safety planning, legal advocacy, safe housing, and opportunities to gain new skills leading to greater self-sufficiency. One of only three hospital-based domestic violence intervention programs in the state of Minnesota, SafeJourney provides 24-hour advocacy to patients and individuals in the community as well as employees of Maple Grove Hospital who may be experiencing domestic abuse. SafeJourney provides life-saving. All SafeJourney services are free and confidential. SafeJourney relies entirely on charitable giving, having to raise its entire budget each year.
